Digits Posted December 21, 2007 Report Share Posted December 21, 2007 There was more of a difference when it came to Beta/VCR and DVD/Laser though.. Blu-ray and HD are practically the same thing. I personally think neither will win nor loose, both will be around for some time and players will come out that will play both. Right now I would choose HD only because of the Bourne's haha, I love those movies. But there are plenty of exclusive blu-ray titles that make a blu-ray player worth while too. The guardian, gone in 60 seconds, dejavu, enemy of the state, the 3 pirates, rat movie (not going to try and spell it haha), etc... So I don't know, I just can't really see either one dying off. What will happen is they will fall in price to where everyone will buy one and then it will boil down to who can make their disc cheaper to manufacture and right now that is HDDVD as far as I know. The porn industry had an incredible amount of sway back then and actually had the clout to settle any sort of format war, but nowadays this is simply not the case. The brick and mortar porn biz is in such a shambolic state it has no real clout to decide anything anymore really, although its endorsement would definitely count in one direction or the other. Most of the major players recognize that online distribution is the way of the future ( med-to-long range future) and no other player has as much invested in this as Microsoft. From live to just straight up invested infrastructure, they have every reason to back the quickest route to online delivery dominance - so much more so than anyone else. And whats the best way to do that ? Well, to prevent a rival format from delaying or offsetting that, of course ! Which, in a sadly twisted way means to support whatever format your biggest competitor does NOT. ie - hddvd. Micro$oft could give a pale, dried shit which format is better for you or i. they just want to be in as good a position as possible to distribute their warez electronically, and if that means taking the wind out of their main competitors sails, then its the right business decision, never mind what is best for you or i. Their business practices are constant reminders of this, and i think its funny that anyone would expect of one the worlds largest corporations to act in any other way. Its just business for them, cold hard numbers on a timescale real people just dont think on - decades and millenia, not quarters of years or single console cycles. Anyways, not that this was supposed to be an anti microsoft rant, cause it's not like i think sony is any better. I will say though that i've been playing jamies PS3 quite a bit over the holidays, and these 'next gen' games certainly are pretty sexy. Yes, some are shite, some are better than others. It seems hit or miss. Im sure there's better variety/quantity on the 360 side, FPS's aside.. but god damn, there's only so many games i can handle at once. Between motor storm, skate and heavenly sword there is ALOT to be impressed with. Now i just want to try creed, MGS4, LBP and KZ2 maybe, and ill decide if im really into this whole console thing. Right now im still just impressed by the whole ' pick up and play ' aspect ( although damnit if installing/waiting for loads on a console doesnt seem like ur getting shafted! ) .... well just see how it holds out in a few months ! HD-DVD just annouced that they are pulling their press conference at the CES because of Warner's surprise annoucement. This might be the turning point in the war.
