By doing these steps, its going to make IRC easy to use for yourself with just the click of a button(ie: opening up the program). Although this is just showing the basics. I will make another one showing you how to auth yourself on irc so that you can have special POWERS(mwahahaha) in our channel and what not.

Step 1. Download the latest version of mIRC from here.

Step 2. Install mIRC with the default settings.

Step 3. Start mIRC

Step 4. Once the first window pops up, asking you to register or whatever, click continue.

Step 5. Ok, now here is the main window where you are going to edit all your settings.

Registering an AuthServ account name

The first thing you need to know about AuthServ is how to register an AuthServ account. Here is the syntax:

/msg AuthServ@Services.GameSurge.Net REGISTER account password email@address

The e-mail address you specify will be very important so please specify a valid e-mail address.

If you have registered correctly, AuthServ will notice you the following:

-AuthServ- Account has been registered.

-AuthServ- To activate your account, you must check your email for the "cookie" that has been mailed to it. When you have it, use the cookie command to complete registration.

If you receive the following error, it means your password is a word in the English language and can't be accepted due to security reasons, please select a password that is not a word in the English language:

-AuthServ- Your password should not be the word "password", or any other word.

Then complete the instructions in the e-mail you receive to complete your registration.

Authenticating with AuthServ

Now that you've registered an AuthServ account, you'll have to authenticate every time you connect to GameSurge. Here is the syntax:

/msg AuthServ@Services.GameSurge.Net AUTH account password

Possible Problems with AuthServ and their solutions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your IRC hostmask changes, AuthServ will give you this error "Your hostmask is not valid for account ." When this happens, if you have set your e-mail address properly on your account, you can type the following:

/msg AuthServ AUTHCOOKIE account

Then check your e-mail and follow the instructions in the e-mail to fix your invalid hostmask.

If, for any reason, you forget the password to your AuthServ account, and you have properly set the password on your account, you can also type the following:

/msg AuthServ@Services.GameSurge.Net RESETPASS account new_password

NOTE: the same password restrictions apply as when registering.

If you do not have your e-mail address set on your AuthServ account, you may visit #support for help with these problems. To set your e-mail address on your AuthServ account, type: /msg AuthServ set email

For further help with AuthServ type: /msg AuthServ HELP

Authing on Connect

If you want to make sure you authorize yourself every time you log onto the gamesurge network, follow these easy steps:

Step 1. From within IRC, click the Tools tab and select Options.

Step 2. Select the Connect tab.

Step 3. Select the Options tab from within the Connect menu.

Step 4. Click on the Perform button.

Step 5. In the Network dropdown box, select the Gamesurge network. You should see the channel joins from the previous section in here after selecting the gamesurge network.

Step 6. Add the following line to the top of the entry section(above the channel joins): /msg AuthServ@Services.GameSurge.net AUTH account password . Make sure to replace the account and password with the one that you created using the Authorization method. It should look something like this:

http://portfolio.itas.ca/irelandt/ircguideauth.png

*note Remember to add your info in the blurred part

Step 7. Click OK, and exit the Options menu and restart IRC to test to see if it worked.

Thanks and welcome to IRC and the FNF IRC channel: #fnfclan. If you have any questions at all, please message me on IRC or say something in our channel and I will give you a hand with just about anything you want.
