Disable On-board soundchip

Recommended Posts

Need to be in Safe Mode to uninstall the onboard sound. Press F8 during your boot up, needs to be pressed right after it does its initial check. Once you've started in safe mode right click on My Computer ...

My Computer --> Properties --> Hardware (Tab) --> Device Manager --> Sound Devices

Right click and uninstall everything in the sound devices even your own stuff and then reinstall your drivers for your sound card again. Don't be afraid to uninstall everything as some of that junk does interfere with your games if you are running your own sound card.

An easy way to disable onboard functions is to enter setup while you are booting up. If you are lucky there will be a setting you can toggle on/off for onboard sound and if you have it onboard video. If you have this setting you dont need to do all that uninstalling/installing. Once its toggled off it should pose no problems to you. kthxbye

I would do it Colo's way. If you just remove the onboard drivers and what not, when you restart your computer, you'll keep getting asked to reinstall a new device(your old built on sound card). Best way, if its an onboard sound card, either disable it in BIOS, or if its an older machine, disabled using a jumper on the motherboard. Check your mobo manual. In bios, just look for your onboard chip (ex: ac'97, c-media, etc.) and disable it. if you still cant get it working, call me and I'll come over and fix it for ya.
