Crilix's Painting Thread

I think Chris is talking about Steve the "abandoner." It wasn't I who challenged Crilix then disappeared. Chris and I actually do a sketch a day to challenge each other as it is. And we work on a comic together.

I would, but I sorta suck at Photoshop. Can anyone in here who's good with Photoshop team up with me on this? I can draw stuff. I'm just not super solid with PS. I know layers and I can mess with filters and modes and whatnot, but I mostly make accidental stuff.

Yes, I know the right hand looks gimped. I spent a depressingly large amount of time on it and got nowhere. Also, there's a lock of hair over the left arm that I neglected to colour for some mysterious reason. Regardless, it's one of my best girls yet, I think.

Joker, I partially agree with you. I think the left-hand arm and hand is pretty solid, but the right is fairly weak.

Indemn, that's pretty much what I'm aiming for http://www.fnfclan.com/uploads/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png

Beyond mine meek and lowley thread has been graced by the great The Bitch! I totally have no idea who she is. Some random chick I have a pic of. As I go about my daily browsing of the tubes I save anything that might be fun to draw, and that was one of 'em. I'm not quite comfortable drawing people I know... I generally fugly them up pretty bad.

Anyhoo, this week: A guy in a welder's mask with massive headphones. It seems Bioshock-esque.

I don't think he fuglies up the people he draws (especially considering I'm fugly as it it), he just uses a more impressionist style when he draws people he knows.

It's been a while Gentlemans. Here's something I've spent about ~7hrs on over the past week for my Dad for his birthday and Christmas. He's a hockey/goalie/Canadiens fan. It started off like this...

And ended up like this:

This involved copious amounts of the dodge and burn tools. I'm generally not overly fond of them, but I got fairly solid results. It's probably one of my most visually realistic drawings yet - I tried to pay attention to detail on the textures and colours. I think it paid off, I'm fairly pleased with the outcome.

But does this all seem vaguely familiar, perhaps like a little bit of deja vu? I did one similar a few pages back. It's interesting looking at that old drawing and comparing it to the new. Sure there's a big leap in technical skill... But I think this new one really lacks any kind of style. I think I prefer the old one to this - I can see individual brushstrokes, it's a little bit more exciting, and it just feels way more unique. The new one feels... Kind of generic. Like a kind of crappy airbrushed replicate you can pick up from any Wal-Mart discount bin for $10. I'm very proud of how far I've gotten skill-wise and how realistic it turned out. But it just lacks... A certain something.

Dunno if anyone still pays any attention to this thread, but here's a quick sample of some of my recent arts:
